Provenance. Prénom dérivé d'Elvire. Vient du germain "adel et ward" Signifie : "noble et gardien" Se fête le 16 juillet.
Histoire. Sainte Elvire fut abbesse au monastère de Ohren, en Allemagne, au XIème siècle, si l'on en croit le témoignage d'un bréviaire de Trèves. On ne sait rien d'autre sur cette sainte.Personnages célèbres: Elvire, l'héroïne du Lac de Lamartine; Elvire Popesco, actrice française d'origine roumaine.
