Provenance. Vient du germain "hild" Signifie: "combat" Se fête le 17 novembre.
Histoire. Nièce de saint Edwin, hilda reçoit la foi chrétienne de saint Paulin. En 647, elle abandonne l'habit séculier, prend le voile pour ne servir que le christ dans la prière et la solitude. En 657, Hilda devient abbesse de Whitby, dans le Yorkshire où elle préside le grand synode de 664 qui voit le raliement des celtes aux usages liturgiques de Rome. Hilda est un exemple de sainteté pour ceux qui vivent auprès d'elle. Elle expire le 17 novembre 680.
Caractère. D'une franchise absolue allant jusqu'à l'indélicatesse, elles sont généralement têtues, obstinées et courageuses. Elles travaillent plus par raison que par enthousiasme, mais sont très perspicaces. Elles ont parfois tendance à négliger leur entourage pour ne s'intéresser qu'à leurs affaires. D'une morale scrupuleuse, elles sont tolérantes. Bonnes vivantes, bavardes, elles ont le sens de la fidélité.
